Observation Is Not Only Based On Eyesight

When I reflect on aspects of my identity, which are influenced by the way I observe the world I live in, I choose my life experiences to guide me.  Life experiences can be based on good moments, or moments that mark a life by giving it a better understanding, and a meaning of what life is and how we are meant to live it. When I reached the age of 12, my life took a sharp turn, not just because i was going to become a teen, but because I was diagnosed with Lupus.   Since then, I started seeing myself differently because I had to deal with my life being in between life and death. This process continued till I reached the age of seventeen and it challenged me in multiple ways. Since I made it through those years, I have received many comments about my life,  that can be summed up in saying “my life is so hard”, “I just can’t deal with it anymore “, and other comments that make you reflect how you are seen by people and how people see me.  I’m not a person who is quickly to judge, but by going through my experience I am able to identify gestures, glances, and certain movements that a normal person would not see. That is one way I see people, by the way they engage in life or just relate with others.

Another aspect of my identity that influences the way I observe is how I was nurtured. Since I am a lonely child, I have always been under the care of every woman in my family. My mother, grandmother, and aunt have instructed in me, the way to properly see a women, without prejudice or taking into consideration social norm.  In today’s society, some of the men tend to see women by the way she looks, dresses or even expresses herself. Traits that have ruined the way woman think about men, but also practice against men. Instead, I was taught to see woman as an individual, who plays a very important role in society, and as the being that procreates life in her entrails. By learning this, I approach woman, not by seeing the exterior, because we focus so much on the superficial that we miss red flags that may become heartbreaks in life or even misunderstandings.
Never the less the most important factor on my identity is the desire to keep on living. Sometimes we live life so fast we miss the importance of it. We only focus on what we see in a moment, rather than focusing and observing the whole scene. This not only affects the way we observe, but also how we live in our society because we tend to miss the details, and with that the ability to be in touch with others. We cannot even sit down for a moment and talk for a while, without giving an excuse of how much work or chores we have to do in the day. Life seems a big period of time, but the imminent fact of it is that we know when it started, but don’t know when it will end. Let’s just enjoy life at its prime, cause sometime we may see life has no meaning or sense but the problems is we are just missing the details hidden within them. It is in our hands to open our minds because the way we observe is not only a part of a function of our eyes but an extension of the way we think. Nonetheless, we need to start first by observing ourselves and eliminate any prejudice we may have inside us that may cause us to be blind in a world full of details.

  1. There are a lot of us that live life too fast due to work or studies; sometimes it's needed to stop and see the details in life like you say you do.

  2. Pretty much everyone needs a wake up call from life to change the perception of what we haver around us.

  3. We have to evaluate ourselves first and must think of it as a constant evaluation.
